About Us
Growing Hearts and Minds CIC was founded by Ruth and Lynne, whose shared life experiences and professional journeys have shaped a deep commitment to supporting children and families.
Our Story
Having both been teenage mothers and having experienced their own adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), Ruth and Lynne bring not only professional expertise but also genuine empathy and understanding to their work. These experiences have inspired a strong passion to support children and families, particularly those navigating the impact of trauma and early adversity.
Ruth is a mother of three with over 20 years of experience in primary education, including working as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). She has spent the past 6 years working as a Play Therapist, and through this work has supported both children and their parents, making her a skilled child and family therapist who understands the importance of working relationally.
Lynne is a mother of two and a grandmother of one, with 23 years of experience as a social worker. Her work has focused predominantly on supporting families in crisis, as well as children who have experienced trauma, loss, and adoption. Lynne is also a qualified play therapist, bringing an additional therapeutic dimension to her practice.
Together, Ruth and Lynne believe that you cannot work with a child in isolation. Their approach is holistic, working not only with children but also with parents, special guardians, adoptive and foster families, and schools. They are committed to creating a strong, supportive network — a circle of care — around each child and family, helping them feel understood, supported, and able to move forward with confidence.
Their work is rooted in the belief that with the right understanding, care, and support, children and families can heal, grow, and thrive.
Rooted in the belief that every child deserves the chance to grow within their community.
The Difference We Make
Our work creates meaningful, lasting change for children, families, and communities.
For Children
Children feel safer, more understood, and better able to express their emotions. They develop confidence, resilience, and improved emotional regulation.
For Families
Parents and carers gain understanding, confidence, and practical tools — strengthening relationships and reducing stress within the home.
For Schools and Communities
Children are better able to engage in education and social environments, leading to improved behaviour, wellbeing, and connection.
For the Wider Community
Stronger families create stronger communities. Our work helps reduce emotional distress, prevent escalation of difficulties, and promote long-term wellbeing.
Reinvesting in the Community
As a CIC, all surplus is reinvested into expanding access to therapy and support, ensuring more children and families can benefit from our work.
